The Art of Cardmaking

For the last decade or so, there are fewer people who take the time to send Christmas cards, citing the time and or cost of doing so.  Not my Hubby and me!  For several years my photographer husband used one of his shots that became our Christmas card, which people raved about and looked forward to receiving each year.  Here’s one he did a few years back at a local mill.

But he has retired from the photography business now, and  has passed the torch to me and my handcrafted Stampin’ Up cards.

So why send Christmas cards or even cards in general?  Letter writing is most certainly a dying art form and the pace of our lives and the availability of instant communication now are contributing to its rapid demise.

But there ARE those of us who still believe in the art of cardmaking and the art of the handwritten note, and that both are still very much worth the time and effort.  It’s a joy for both of us to send out Christmas cards each year, a thoughtful  little reminder to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers that we think they are worth both the time and effort it takes to send a card.

That’s the MOST important reason I love the art of cardmaking—it’s one more way to keep us personally connected with people in an increasingly impersonal world.  The continuing belief that sometimes that Christmas or birthday or anniversary or sympathy or thinking of you card makes a difference, even if it just puts a momentary smile on the recipient’s face.  If you “don’t know what to write” in the card, Stampin’ Up has many sentiment stamps that can help you with that!

Hopefully, some of you will want to join me in the New Year to help keep this Art of Cardmaking alive.

December Cards Class

Such fun making out last projects for this year!  We made a card using the Seasonal Bells Stamps and coordinating punch.

This Bundle is in our Holiday Catalog but, as you can see, can be used for the wedding season, too!

Find this Bundle here in my Online Store.

For our other project, we made a gift card using the Cookie Cutter Christmas Bundle, the Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Tin of Tags Stamps Set.  Click on the name of each of the products to find out more.  Here’s the fun little holder we made!
